In between · the hiking day

What a day on this hike looks like

The day starts at Interlaken Ost with a 30-minute drive into the valley, or at Lauterbrunnen station in front of the Grütschalp gondola if you are staying there. From Lauterbrunnen the cable car lifts you 686 metres to Grütschalp in 4 minutes, and the walking begins on the rim of the valley.

The path is a broad gravel track that climbs steadily to the forest edge and continues through mountain forest. The listing describes a moderate uphill of about 30 minutes at the start, then a wide path that levels out. Where the trees open, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau stand across the valley and Wengen spreads along the far slope.

The itinerary gives 3 hours to the hiking section at Mürren, then a 1-hour visit before the drive back to Interlaken Ost. That visit is Trümmelbach Falls, whose entry is included: ten glacier waterfalls inside the mountain, reached by a tunnel lift. It is a full, varied day of Lauterbrunnen hikes and water.

Why this hike

A path above the cliffs.
Three peaks opposite.
Falls inside the rock.

This guided Lauterbrunnen Valley hiking day follows the broad path from Grütschalp to Mürren and finishes at Trümmelbach Falls, with entry included. It lasts 6 hours, for a small group of up to 8 with a guide in English, and starts from $273. It is a new listing with one review so far.

In between · why this valley

A valley carved for walkers

Lauterbrunnen sits at 795 m in a trough-shaped valley between towering rock faces, and the tourism office counts 72 waterfalls plunging into it. Glaciers left the floor flat and the walls sheer, with sunny terraces on both sides. That shape is what makes the walking so good: easy paths on the terraces, with a drop to the valley on one side and high peaks on the other. It makes every outing here as much a Lauterbrunnen waterfall hike as a mountain walk.

UNESCO listed the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch as World Heritage in December 2001, and this valley sits in the middle of it. Mürren and Wengen, the villages on its terraces, are both car-free, so the paths between them are quiet and the villages belong to walkers.

Lifts and trains tie it all together. Jungfraubahnen notes that both terraces are reached by train from Lauterbrunnen station. You can walk one way and ride the other, shorten a route when the weather turns, or link a valley walk with a summit by rail, all without a car.

In between · the first review

What the first guest wrote

This listing is young. GetYourGuide shows just one review for it so far, a 5.0, which is no long track record to lean on. One happy guest is encouraging, not proof.

That review, from a traveller from the United States, is all about the guide: warm and lively, well organised, and able to make the logistics disappear so the group could simply enjoy the walk. It adds that she made them feel cared for in unfamiliar surroundings, as if she already knew what they needed.

What it does not cover is just as useful to know. It says nothing about the weather, the pace or the falls, so read the listing's own details on the route, the fitness level and what is and is not included. If you book, your own review will help the next walkers decide.

In between · season and works

When the hike runs, and the 2026 works

The listing shows starting times by availability rather than fixed months, so check the calendar for your dates. Its last stop sets a practical season: Trümmelbach Falls welcome visitors from early April until early November, 9 am to 5 pm, with longer hours of 8:30 am to 6 pm in July and August. In winter the falls close because of falling ice and rockfall.

In 2026 the Grütschalp cable car was modernised, and the listing adjusted its route: from 13 April to 10 July 2026 the hike started and ended in Mürren. Jungfraubahnen reopened the cable car on 11 July 2026, restoring the classic way up from Lauterbrunnen.

Spring and early summer bring the strongest waterfalls, when meltwater feeds them. High summer brings the longest days and the most open trails, and September is often settled. Whichever month you choose, read the listing's current notice before you go, in case maintenance changes the plan again.

In between · mountain weather

Clouds, showers and the right day

Mountain weather changes fast here. At MeteoSwiss's Interlaken station, July averages 146 mm of rain over 13 rain days, and much of a summer's rain falls in afternoon showers. Mornings are often the clearest time on the rim, so an early start gives the best chance of seeing the peaks opposite.

The path itself copes with most weather. It is wide and well made rather than exposed, and the forest gives shelter in a shower. The finale at Trümmelbach is inside the mountain, so rain makes little difference to that part of the day.

Cloud is the real thief. On a day when the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are hidden, the walk is still pleasant but loses its great view. Watch the forecast, and remember that free cancellation up to 24 hours before lets you move the booking if the outlook turns bad.

What you pay for, and what you pay on top

The price covers pick-up and drop-off at Interlaken Ost, Trümmelbach Falls entry, the guided hike with a local guide, and hiking poles. Your plans stay open: book the seat today, settle the bill later, and drop out at no cost as long as 24 hours remain before the start.

Transport fares are extra. The listing excludes public transport, the gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, the gondola from Mürren down to Stechelberg and the bus from Stechelberg to Trümmelbach Falls, and prints CHF 24.20 per person beside that last item. Budget for these on the day, or check whether a rail pass you already hold covers them.

As a yardstick, the single adult fare on the Stechelberg to Mürren cableway was CHF 11.80 on 20 October 2026, and zero with a Swiss Travel Pass or GA. Fares vary by pass and season, so look up the ones that match your own ticket before the hike.

Pictures worth stopping for

The best frames on this walk face east, across the valley. From the open pastures you have the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in one line, with Wengen below them at the foot of the Männlichen chain. The peaks are often clearest before afternoon cloud builds, which suits an early start.

Down in the valley, Staubbach makes the classic picture. Switzerland Tourism names photo spots in Lauterbrunnen itself and across the valley in Wengen. The fall drops around 297 metres beside the village church, and in early summer it carries the most water.

Inside Trümmelbach the light is low and the spray is constant. Keep a cloth for the lens, protect your phone, and expect wet steps; the paths can be slippery. Drones are not allowed anywhere in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, so leave yours at home.

20,000litres a second

Inside the mountain

Trümmelbach can carry up to 20,000 litres of glacier water per second.

It drains the glacier walls of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau through ten falls inside the rock, from a catchment of 24 square kilometres.

In between · what to wear

Boots, layers and a jacket for the spray

The listing asks guests to bring hiking shoes. Even on a broad path, a sole with grip makes the climb from Grütschalp and the wet steps inside Trümmelbach far more comfortable. Hiking poles are provided, which helps on the uphill start and on the way down.

Wengen Tourism's basic kit for walkers is a good checklist: well-worn boots, clothing in layers for the weather, a rucksack with rain and sun protection, plenty of water and food, and a small first-aid kit with any personal medication. Mountain air is cooler than the valley, and the shade of the forest is cooler still.

Add a light waterproof for the falls. Switzerland Tourism recommends sturdy shoes for Trümmelbach, as the paths can be wet and slippery, and the spray drifts across several viewpoints. With a dry layer in the bag, the end of the day stays comfortable whatever the sky does.

An English-speaking guide and an easy start

The tour is run by Local Guide CH, with a live guide in English. The listing promises a friendly, knowledgeable guide who shares facts and local stories and keeps a pace the whole group can enjoy. With no more than 8 people, there is room for questions along the way.

Pick-up is at Interlaken Ost train station, where the group meets in front of the Coop entrance, and drop-off is back at the same station. If you are staying in the valley, you can meet the guide at Lauterbrunnen station in front of the Grütschalp gondola entrance instead.

Starting times depend on availability, so pick the slot that fits your plans when you book. Arrive a few minutes early at the meeting point; Interlaken Ost is busy, and the Coop entrance is an easy landmark to find.

In between · on your own

Walking it without a guide

You can walk the same path on your own. Ride the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, then follow the signs to Mürren; Jungfraubahnen times the walk at about 1 hour 15 minutes uphill. A narrow-gauge railway runs alongside and stops at Winteregg, so you can shorten the route there.

From Mürren, the cableway drops to Stechelberg in about 4 minutes, and bus 141 runs back down the valley past Trümmelbach Falls. Entry costs CHF 18 for adults, as read on 20 October 2026. Doing it yourself takes some planning but gives you the freedom to linger.

What a guide adds is the arranged transport from Interlaken, the poles, the stories and a pace set for the group. If you enjoy planning and know your way around Swiss trains, go alone. If you would rather think only about the views, book the guided day.

In between · honest caveats

Who this hike suits, and who should skip it

This is a hike for reasonably fit adults and teenagers. Its operator rules out children under 12 and walkers with a low level of fitness, and bans alcohol and drugs. Trümmelbach has its own rule: no small children up to 4 years old and no dogs.

Plan for the extras. Transport fares are not in the price, and the listing is new, with one review so far. If you want a long record of reviews, a bigger operator's tour may reassure you more; if you want a small group on a classic path with the falls included, this one fits.

Weather is the last caveat. A cloudy day hides the peaks, and late in the season Trümmelbach may close early. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before gives you room to adjust.
